“BETWEEN VENICE AND TOLEDO”
A musical evening
with Ensemble Mezzo
17 June 2026, at 20:00

The concert offers a journey through the musical connections between Italy and Spain, from the Renaissance to the early Baroque, in dialogue with the rich heritage of the Sephardic tradition.

Music by Giulio Caccini, Barbara Strozzi, Girolamo Frescobaldi, and Andrea Falconiero is interwoven with traditional songs in Ladino, giving voice to universal themes such as love, longing, and memory. The evening will conclude with a special musical dialogue between Alonso Mudarra’s Triste estaba el Rey David and its Sephardic counterpart in Ladino — a testament to the long journey of melodies and stories across the centuries and through the cultures of the Mediterranean.

The program will be performed by Ensemble Mezzo, an Israeli ensemble founded in 2015 and specializing in the performance of early music on historical instruments. Its members have trained at some of the world’s most prestigious centers dedicated to early music.

Assaf Kacholi – voice
Doret Florentin – recorder
Ophira Zakai – lute
Gideon Brettler – Baroque guitar
