Under the High Patronage of the President of the Italian Republic, the Week of the Italian Language in the World is the main annual event celebrating the Italian language abroad. It is organized each year by Italy’s diplomatic and consular network and Italian Cultural Institutes in the world, in collaboration with leading partners in the promotion of the Italian language, including the Ministry of Education and Merit (MIM), the Ministry of University and Research (MUR), the Ministry of Culture (MiC), the Swiss Embassy, the Accademia della Crusca, Cepell, CGIE, the Community of Italian-Language Radio and Television Broadcasters, RAI, the Società Dante Alighieri and Treccani.
This year’s edition, taking place from 19 to 25 October, is dedicated to the theme “A Brilliant Language: Conceiving, Designing and Creating in Italian.” The theme highlights how Italian is not only the heir to a rich history and tradition, but also a vehicle for Italian expertise and craftsmanship, synonymous of quality and recognized and appreciated around the world.
The initiative seeks to emphasize the strategic role of Italian and the Italian-speaking community in promoting a dynamic and innovative image of Italy abroad, spanning technology, science and engineering, design and fashion, gastronomy, literature and the arts.
The Italian Cultural Institute in Tel Aviv is marking this annual occasion with a series of events, including the Writing the Self Workshop, European Day of Languages, European Night of Literature 2026, and the conference “On Dante: Conversations, Lectures and Encounters with the Divine Comedy”.
For the 2026 edition of the Week of the Italian Language in the World, the Accademia della Crusca has also published a volume on the theme Lingua gentile, lingua geniale: ideare, progettare, creare con l’italiano (A Kind Language, a Brilliant Language: Conceiving, Designing and Creating with Italian), edited by Annalisa Nesi and Raffaella Setti.
